Outdoor Retailer Day 1: Gen X has their place this season.

As I stroll the aisles and check out the tons of new outdoor gear I can’t help but get a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Not only are companies starting to catch on with women’s preferences for outdoor gear, they are now producing items that I would actually use or wear as a part of the 30 something crowd. For years we have seen a push with the Foxy/Quicksilver, petite, mini…mini skirt, younger styles. We also saw many conservative looks coming from companies like Royal Robbins and LL Bean. What I am seeing at this show is apparel for the outdoor-minded woman who wants a bit of flare. This Gen-x generation is the working, new mother, woman that wants gear that will function but can also be worn with sass. The company Lole, based out of Canada, will be launching their brand in the US this spring 2006. The line really targets that outdoor-minded woman who is looking for clothing that she can travel in, go for a hike, and then hit the local bistro for a cocktail. I am really impressed with their color patterns and “woman” sized cuts. Their medium really fits me. Not like other products where I feel as if I will incredible hulk the sleeves off if I reach forward.
Other items I looked at were womenspecific backpacks, sunscreen/skin care for active women, and sport bras for the more endowed woman. Very exciting new stuff for all of us ladies. I also had the chance to speak with Nikki Kelly and Tanya Faux of team Teva about their North Face kayaking expedition in Siberia. Please read about their amazing adventure.
