When Lightning Strikes, Ghost Ride that Bicycle

8:30pm, last 8 miles of an 80+ mile road ride:

Time to spin it out and dream of that cold beer you will be having while sitting on your deck. NOPE..Not this night. Instead, we had to put the hammer down and ride through pouring rain and lightning bolts all around us. Some of us believe that the skinny piece of rubber that separates our metal rims from the road is enough to avoid disaster. (We will believe anything sometimes to just accomplish a set goal. Crazy roadies). My research has found this very untrue. It must have taken me about 15 minutes to ride the three remaining blocks to my house. Every time I saw a flash I just ghost rode my bicycle and jumped under a tree or under a house. The neighbors thought I was nuts. Not the best idea for the bike or myself. My stubbornness supercedes my intelligence, AGAIN. I must admit that I scared myself so bad that I started crying when I got home. Next time I will not hesitate to hitch or call someone to pick me up. Be careful on those roads…cars are not the only thing that can kill us.
