Don't Need Nothin But a Good Time.

I have never been that girl to dream of her wedding day. Obviously…hence the 1980’s theme reception we are having on June 23rd. The daunting idea of planning a wedding has been made easier by choosing such a fun way to organize it. Sifting through 1980’s vintage wedding dresses, putting together the music, deciding on Turquoise and Purple as “OUR COLORS” and the “self-built” dance floor with a linoleum patch for break dancing is only the beginning.

Yes, my family from Long Island, NY were a bit skeptical at the idea first, but when the invites went out with a “Suggest Your Favorite 80’s Song” line on the RSVP card…well, let’s just say the following:
We Got the Beat, The Go Go’s
We’re Not Gonna Take It, Twisted Sister
Melt With You, Modern English
Raspberry Beret, Prince

I know you are all humming one, or all of these tunes. Just to get ourselves super excited for this endeavor we sat down and starting watching some 80’s videos on You Tube. If you are looking for an 80’s throw back please click on this link This is the funniest thing I have seen in a long time. Hoping someone will dress up as him for the wedding!

Of course it has not been all fun and games. We are having 225 people for a reception in our yard! Therefore, the tent rentals, the catering, and the porta potty rentals are all real and sort of annoying. We are trying to go as simple and GREEN as possible. Therefore, the cost we save in going simple goes right back into biodegradable/compostable beverage napkins and trash bags. These are all of the realities that go along with planning a wedding. Though we are having fun with it, I am the first to admit I am excited for the planning to be over!

Some advice:
Before you even start planning a wedding, discuss with your fiancĂ© what you really want out of your wedding. Do you want a big or small wedding? Where do you want it? Why do you want it? Last November, sitting on the beach in Kauai, we discussed all of these things. For us, having our friends and family be part of what we are committing to is very important. We want to have a really fun party to celebrate. However, we do not want to make a mockery of our vows so we are having a separate morning ceremony up a mountain canyon. This will be simple and sweet, no mullets, and crimped hair. After an afternoon of relaxing in the mountains we will gather again for the 80’s reception….good times!

Email me if you are looking for a 1980’s wedding coordinator! Okay, maybe once is enough.
