Highgear Pulseware Mini

For a low price point, HighGear has come out with an easy way to track your heart rate. When you need it, just touch the two sensor buttons (HighGear’s Pulsetouch technology) on the side and presto. This is a great starter watch for someone who is experimenting with heart rates and not sure they want to get too serious about it. There is an alert system for target heart rates with a color graph (INZONE display) around the side of the watch face that helps you stay in your target heart rate. The more you check your heart rate, the more accurate this feature can be. Additional options include calorie counting and fat burning; it works similarly in the sense that the more you check the heart rate, the more accurate the read. To get started, simply input your weight in pounds or kilograms, enter your gender, start the timer, and keep checking your heart rate. In addition to a stopwatch, there is a lap chronograph, and a countdown timer, dual time zones, alarm, date, and light.

I was hoping to put on this watch and figure it out without using the manual, but could not. The manual is thick but this is only because it is written in several languages and includes two watch models, phew! Setting up the watch was still a little frustrating. I had to do it a few times and reset my information. I like the size of the watch, it is lightweight, and it has some style too, comes in light blue or black. Since it is made for a woman, it sits nicely flat on the wrist so shirts and jackets can easily slip over it without catching; good for people who never take off their watch. The light works well until I experimented with it in the tent. Can I check my heart rate with the backlight on? Not really, this must be attempted several times (press light button then HR sensors, reverse, again, almost, again!) before the two functions coincide with each other for a split second. Overall, I am pleased with this product and recommend it for someone who is playing with heart rate readings, calorie counting, and fat burning for the first time.
