On my way to Las Olas Women's Surf Camp: Journal Entry #1

While growing up, my parents would ship me off to camp every summer. I went to basketball camps, art camps, girl scout camps, and everything in between. Right before I left I was always nervous, and most of the time less than thrilled. Who wanted to go to basketball camp when I had just been the only kid to get cut from the sixth grade basketball team????

Now here I am, thirty years old and going to camp. As my friends back home are waking up to go skiing or snowboarding, I’m sitting here in the Denver airport on my way to Sayulita, Mexico for the Las Olas all-women surf camp.

Twenty years later, I’m still nervous, but instead of dread, I’m filled with extremely large amounts of excitement. I love surfing (even though I’m terrible), I love the beach (who dosn’t?), and I love traveling. Unlike basketball camp, I think this will be a great week. Instead of practicing my non-existent layup, I’ll be learning how to surf, practice yoga, getting a massage, and whale watching. I’ll be sure to keep everyone updated for the next week. Meanwhile, enjoy all the snow!
