This past weekend, I had two amazing days in the mountains and am still glowing at the experience. However, for some reason I cannot forget the head of romaine lettuce that I picked out of my garden on Saturday evening. It was PERFECT!
Imagine all of your gear wish lists coming to life under one roof where you can see it all. Yeah…this is The Outdoor Retailer show reality…except you can only look…you can’t take it with you. Once every summer and winter approximately 900 outdoor vendors turn the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City into a gear heads paradise. From August 10-13 companies had the chance to show retailers, athletes, media, and manufacturers the new products for the Spring/Summer of 2007. Lauri Harris and myself headed down to this gear frenzy and we have compiled a list of some of the companies we met with and some of their products to keep and eye out for in 2007.
Womenspecific.com would like to welcome Andrea Reichert to our great team of guest bloggers and writers. This article, Disordered Eating and the Athlete, is some food for thought. This is a topic that is very important to learn about and recognize. Our bodies and health are the most important factor in our lives. Without good health we jeopardize our existence with the outdoors. Be wise in your training. Treat your body right!
You just rode your bike 40 miles followed by a brick run. You’re thinking to yourself that you should eat something healthy, like a banana and a protein bar, so not to undo the grueling work and time you just put in. But you’re craving something more. We all need something that restores our glycogen stores, quenches our thirst and gives us the energy to keep on going. Sometimes we just want something that tastes good; an ice cream cone, a candy bar, a beer (we’ll get to bar rides another time for all you ‘purists’). what’s so bad about a candy bar or a bag of Doritos? After all, you’re a fat burning machine, right?
When I woke up on Wednesday I was ready to walk through the regular grind of a usual day. I would work on Womenspecific.com until 1:00 and then go to the bike shop for the afternoon. As I was drinking my coffee and working on my last blog Scott informs me that my friend Shannon called about heading to the Palisades for some Wake Boarding. My eyes popped wide and a huge grin covered my face.
Sure honey, I am ready to go!
How many times have you said that to your significant other before heading out on a long bike ride? How many times have you said that with enthusiasm and excitement sort of knowing in the back of your head that your mental state might be fragile and that in a short time you might be bonking and weeping? Yeah…I know your pain!

Womenspecific.com reporting from the 2006 Summer Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City: This is a huge convention that encompasses all of our favorite outdoor past times. At this show you get the sneak preview to all the Spring 2007 products. This is where retailers come to buy their stock, athletes come to hopefully gain sponsorships, vendors come to sell their products, and media comes to report on all of the excitement.
I arrived in Cooke City, MT on Friday evening with a bunch of nerves about biking up and over Beartooth Pass The nerves mostly came from seeing the hardcore group of fellow riders whom some have been doing this ride for almost 20 years. I figured I was about to get crushed. It has become a tradition with this group to ride the Beartooth region every summer. Scott and I felt honored to be invited. After some great food, a few yummy beers, and all of them saying it is a RIDE, not a RACE, I slept with ease and my apprehension turned to excitement.
Heading out to Yellowstone National Park this weekend to bike up and over Beartooth Pass. We will travel 64 miles from Cooke City to Red Lodge, Montana, gaining approximately 4,000 feet on Saturday. We will eat, drink beer, and sleep in Red Lodge then wake up Sunday to bike back to Cooke City. This is some of the most beautiful country in the US. I will report back with stories and photo’s on Monday. Until then, ride hard and have a great weekend.
We are all scorching…across the states; across the world matter-o-fact…Of course it has nothing to do with global warming according to our current government…YEAH, whatever. That is another entire blog of it’s own.
