Contourwear Women's Zip-Off Pant

Another versatile pant for all activities! What a winner! We took the VW Golf on our road trip so Chris could run the bio-diesel as we drove to Oregon, eventually to Seattle and return. So, I had to limit the amount of stuff I could take along. But as it turned out, all I needed was the Contourwear Women’s Zip-Off Pant to climb, skate ski, mountain bike (with bike shorts as my under layer), shop, and road trip.

ACME Bar X: The Common Soy Based Energy/Protein Bar on the Market.

Guest blog from Kate Schade, energy bar connoisseur.

ACME Bar X DOES taste like Peanut Butter….I love peanut butter. But, when I am out on the trail the last thing I want is a peanut butter bar that tastes and feels like all the rest in my mouth. A smooth monotonous texture with a few crunchy things in there and a slightly metallic aftertaste. And afterall, soy these days is starting to get some negative feedback and the FDA will soon be denying any product with soy in it to make positive health claims on the label. I’d rather stick with real food. Too much soy in these products.

Girls that truly love dirt!

I could not stress enough in my postings from Sea Otter on how muddy and wet the race conditions were. Sean Leslie, from Base Camp Communications PR in Jackson, WY, submitted a great video to BikeMag.com that sums up how crazy the conditions were. Click here to check out Gunn-Rita Dahle facing a mouthful of Monterey mud.

Last days of the Sea Otter Classic 2006

After torrential down pours, tons of mud, and great racing, the Sea Otter Classic came to an exciting end. It was a high energy weekend combining many cycling disciplines in one great arena. The Laguna Seca Racetrack became the site for athletes to show their strengths, talents, and courage. I look forward to next year.

Please click here to read about the last day at Sea Otter. We have also posted great interviews with Gunn-Rita Dahl, Alison Dunlap, and Amanda Riley. Keep an eye out over the next couple of days as we will be adding more great interviews, summarizing the product scene and re-capping the amazing road racing that occurred at Sea Otter.

Interview with Amanda Riley: Elite 3 Road Race

Womenspecific.com: What was the push to start racing?

I had a good friend who was really into racing and he pushed me to get a road bike to get fit for mountain biking before the snow melted. He then dragged me to a few local races and it was so much fun, such a rush, I started going to bigger and bigger races. I’ll keep racing as long as I’m enjoying it as much as I am now. It just seems to get more and more fun the more I learn.

Womenspecific.com: How did you come to your current fit on your bicycle?

Interview with Alison Dunlap: Sea Otter Classic 2006

Womenspecific.com: How is it to be at Sea Otter this year and not racing?

I’m having a blast. Yeah, I miss not racing because this is such a great event, but with the conditions this bad I am very much enjoying being on the sidelines.

Womenspecific.com: Who are some of the athletes that you feel will dominate the field?

Day 4. Sea Otter Classic: Last day and imagine...it is still raining.

The last day of the Sea Otter Classic proved to be an adventurous day of racing. Mother Nature figured she would maintain the wet and rainy so spectators would not have to bother with changing clothes and the racers could maintain the same strategy that they have been practicing. She did not want to bother them with changing tactics on the last days. What a nice lady that Mother Nature.

Interview with Gunn-Rita Dahl: Sea Otter Classic Champion 2006

Womenspecific.com: What changes do you make on your bicycle set up during the various stages?

I’m pretty much down to the smallest detail that I know exactly where things should be, how long I sit on the roller, when I start, what I eat, what I drink. Everything is more or less the same.

Womenspecific.com: How are you feeling about your current fitness?

Day 3: Sea Otter Classic. The ladies are killing it.

Today was an amazing day here at Sea Otter. The energy was high, the weather beautiful, and yes…still a major mud fest. The Cross Country Short Track event was awesome. These ladies had to pedal their faces off for 20 minutes around the muddiest course I have ever witnessed. Muddy carnage everywhere! The spectators were all having a ball. We had a chance to ask Mary McConneloug what her strategy will be prior to the race:

I am just trying to see where the big holes are that I am not going to fall into.

Day 2: Sea Otter Classic. Sun, Mud, Rain.

We woke up today to sun and 60 degrees. Knew this was going to be a great day of racing. The morning started out with the second event of the Pro Mountain Bike Stage Race, the Time Trial.

The Time Trial is a 2-mile course that the ladies race as fast as they can. Aside from this being a lung buster in general, add 7 inches of thick mud to make it more interesting. The mud fest was fun to watch though tough on the athletes. Another evening of tough work for the mechanics.

The road trip from hell!

We headed out of Jackson yesterday around 5:00 am…with the intention of making it all the way to the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, California (16 hours). Yes, we did make it in one push…not without consequences. The past 72 hours has turned out to be incredibly wild. I sort of feel as if I have been taking crazy pills. The fact that we made here to California in one piece is truly amazing. Aside from the usual stress of trying to leave for a week here is a list of the additional forces against us:
